 이번 작품의 연작들은 오리발見, 피아노, 고뇌하는 왕, My Life 등을 주제로 하였다. 그 주제들이 갖는 공통된 요소는 인간에게 있어서 단순히 하나의 도구에 불과 하다고 인식되는 손과 발이다. 얼굴처럼 치장하여 가릴 수도 없는 손과 발은 진실하고 순정한 표정들을 날것으로 드러낸다. “피아노”에서 손은 조형적으로 피아노 와의 유사성을 표현하였지만 “한없이 따뜻한 손의 순수성”의 드러낸다. 직접적인 촉지를 통해 비로소 피아노의 울림을 얻을 수 있는 것처럼 모든 사물에 다가가는 최초의 동작을 은유한다. 고뇌하는 왕의 두 손은 인간의 우울과 고뇌, 권력에 대한 “욕망의 손”을 표현하였다. 그러나 영화 가위 손에서 손은 자아의 정체성과 천재 성을 보여준다. 자신에게는 형벌처럼 잘못 만들어진 손이지만 세상을 새로운 미학적 차원으로 풍요롭게 만드는 에드워드의 손은 작가의 숙명처럼 보인다. 작가는 고통의 극한인 임계점을 거쳐야만 비로소 탄생하는 작품을 통해 세상에 새로운 세계를 제시할 수 있기 때문이다. 그러나 “MyLife”에 표현된 것처럼 소년의 표정에 깃든현실과이상의경계에서잃어버리지말아야하는순수와거친현실의모든것들을다받아낸손의시간을통해우리의삶은아름다운한곡의선율로완성될 수 있을 것이라 믿는다.

Confessing that he feels more comfortable in an honest darkness than a hypocritical brightness, the artist likened his work to the words of French writer Alphonse Daudet: “The reason humans think of home when gazing at the stars in the dark is because they are beings who originally came from the universe.”Just as God creates light from darkness in the beginning, man is first conceived in the darkness of the mother’s womb and ends his life in darkness. As such, darkness is the beginning and end of human existence and conceives both beauty and ugliness at the same time. As an artist who can reveal not only the dark side of black, but also its countless dimensions of light hidden behind the dark facade, Kim Dong-Gi is an artist with remarkable talent.
